stop tryna make katie porter happen
there are far too many people who seem quite eager to present katherine moore porter — a white u.s. congressperson who graduated from the highly elitist institutions of phillips academy andover, yale university, & harvard law school — as a progressive or even radical voice in the amerikan parliament. but the false impressions of her as a representative of the left don’t match her record. since joining the house of (colonial) representatives, katie porter has:
- voted to fund the fascist “department of homeland security”, which includes immigration & customs enforcement (ICE), the transportation & security administration (TSA), & numerous other police+intelligence services, on her very first day on the job in 2019.
- voted for an anti-BDS, pro-israel bill in july 2019.
- honored fascist troops at an irvine, california event in november 2019.
- campaigned for elizabeth warren despite warren’s lies about being Cherokee & backing for imperialist wars.
- defended border policing on twitter in february 2020.
- voted to send billions of dollars to the state department, including infamous operations like the “national endowment for democracy” (ned), united states agency for “international developmemt” (usaid), & the peace corps, in july 2021.
- voted to give israel $1 billion for genocide in september 2021.
- co-authored an op-ed supporting continued operations of fossil fuel profiteers by redistributing their funds instead of eliminating (or at least reducing) for-profit oil & gas operations altogether.
as deputy chair of the congressional progressive caucus, katie porter has taken many of the same positions as “the squad”. yet her actions as a supposed advocate for the working class have largely escaped the degree of leftist scrutiny trained on the squad, probably because she’s white. all representatives of the democrats (& the republicans) are working to maintain oppression around the world & this should be evident in our political analyses.
